Siemens Ultrasonic Flowmeter 

A Siemens ultrasonic flowmeter is a device used to measure the flow rate of liquids or gases in a pipe using ultrasonic sound waves. It is widely used in industries like water treatment, oil & gas, power plants, and manufacturing.

Siemens (now part of Siemens AG) manufactures ultrasonic flowmeters under product lines such as SITRANS F US.

🔹 How It Works

Ultrasonic flowmeters measure flow using sound waves. There are two main types:

1️⃣ Transit-Time Method
  • Two sensors are placed on the pipe.

  • One sends an ultrasonic signal downstream.

  • The other sends it upstream.

  • The difference in travel time between the two signals is used to calculate flow rate.

  • Used for clean liquids (water, chemicals).

2️⃣ Doppler Method
  • Measures frequency shift of sound waves reflected by particles or bubbles in the fluid.

  • Used for dirty or slurry fluids.

The core element of the vibrating level switch is the vibrating fork with integrated vibration drive. When the vibrating tuning fork is immersed in the medium, the resonance frequency of the tuning fork decreases. The frequency change is detected by the electronic circuit and is converted to a switching signal. Irrespective of the mounting position, level changes can be detected very accurately. The respective switch point can be changed via a pipe extension. The high switch point accuracy can be individually adjusted to the respective application using ten sensitivity levels. It is also possible to set a switching delay of 1 ... 20 seconds with the model TLS-S. For use in hazardous areas, explosion-protected versions are also available. The vibrating level switches are, depending on the version, suitable for an operating temperature of -100 ... +200 °C [-148 ... +392 °F] and an operating pressure of -1 ... +100 bar [-14 ... +1,450 psi]. The vibrating level switch is suitable for media with a density of 500 ... 2,500 g/cm³ [289 ... 1,445 oz/in3]. The viscosity of the media should be between 0.1 and 10,000 cP [0.24 and 21,190 lb/ft·h].
